First day as a First year student

 I remember the first time I stepped into the university gate. By then I was a tiny, young and innocent girl, ready to explore the new opportunities that were ahead, but held back by the many fears I had about joining university.

The school had many myths, many of which I had already believed, but I walked in with the hopes that I would come out alive. In a rush not to get late for my first day of orientation, I entered the auditorium, very fancy name for hall, which was full of freshman students just like me. My shy, introverted self could not allow me to socialise, so I stuck to finding a seat and fixating my eyes on my new notebook waiting for the session to begin.

The day went on swiftly and I met new people, new friends and lecturers that I would be seeing often. I got a feel of how life would be here and what my major would be about. The last part of the day encompassed a tour around the school grounds. The facilities were up to date, the classes clean and very airy, the grass was greener, at least that is what I saw. The place was beautiful and it held a unique ambience that I had never experienced before.

I was going to be okay in USIU.

Examination week Coming soon!

The semester has flown by swiftly and it is now a week before the Mid semester examinations. The dreadful week 7 has reached. As any student, I absolutely dread the exam period but it must be done. The environment around campus is also more quiet than usual, and don't get me started about the library. Full as ever! I wonder why most students, I included, have to wait for the last minute to dig into my very, and I mean very many powerpoint slides.

Furthermore, as a final year student, I have to juggle school and writing my project proposal. Tough.. But we push through because we want brighter days. I would urge every student to try their best and catch up with their notes early enough to avoid the last minute hassle. It is always good to be prepared for exam periods like these, and of course, the GPA must be maintained at a good standing so..

All the best to all USIU students in their upcoming mid semester exams.

Satisfying Flavours: Exploring Paul Cafe.

 As a student at USIU Africa, I've had the pleasure of discovering Paul Cafe, a gem on campus that offers a diverse menu to satisfy any craving throughout the day. From breakfast to dinner, Paul Cafe has managed to impress me with their flavours and culinary offerings.

Starting with breakfast, their Chicken and Meat Pies are a standout. The flaky crust holds a savoury filling of juicy chicken and delectable meat, making for a satisfying and flavourful start to the day. And to accompany the pie, their Mocha Coffee is simply irresistible. It's a heavenly blend of smooth espresso, velvety chocolate, and frothy milk that provides the perfect pick-me-up.

However, my experience with lunch was not as enjoyable. The chicken and rice dish I ordered was satisfactory, but it didn't leave a lasting impression. The chicken lacked the tenderness and flavour I had anticipated. While it was decent enough, it didn't quite meet my expectations.

Moving on to dinner, Paul Cafe offers a range of options, including pizza. The pizza I had was okay, but it didn't stand out. The toppings were decent, but there was nothing exceptional about it. It served as a satisfactory option for a casual dinner, but it didn't leave a lasting impression on my taste buds.

In terms of pricing, Paul Cafe leans slightly towards the higher end,with food ranging from 300-1200, which might be a consideration for students on a tight budget. However, the quality and variety of their offerings make it worthwhile. I would rate my overall experience at Paul Cafe a 7/10, as the standout breakfast items like the Chicken and Meat Pies and the delicious Mocha Coffee made up for the lacklustre lunch and dinner options.

As a student, I appreciate the cosy atmosphere and the convenience of having such a delightful eatery right on campus. Paul Cafe has managed to provide a satisfying dining experience for the most part, catering to a variety of tastes and preferences. Whether you're in need of a quick breakfast bite or a casual dinner, Paul Cafe is a reliable option that won't disappoint.

"Discover Your Perfect Fit: A Guide to Attending the Club Fair and Finding Your Tribe

 The past week in school has been filled with music and dancing because of the annual club fair. This year all clubs went all out in showcasing what their clubs are about while encouraging others to join their clubs.

As soon as you stepped into the bustling atmosphere of the club fair you were welcomed with music from the amazing DJs who made everybody dance along. Each club set up stations and the group members were dressed up in t-shirts with their logos. They were very friendly and willing to answer all the questions we had. The various clubs were;

  1. Peer counselling
  2. Dance club
  3. Chess club
  4. Art club
  5. K connect
  6. Music club

Aside from the music the DJs there was also presentations from the music and dance clubs who entertained everyone. It was a very interactive event which had something from everyone. It definitely  encouraged us to join extra curricular activities.

TASTY KOREAN FOOD FAIR IN SCHOOL

 Welcome to our blog about life as a USIU student😀 . There was recently  a food fair in school by the K-connect club which purposes to educate us about the Korean culture. What better way to do this than with food! They had set up a tent where they were selling everything from clothes to food. It attracted a large crowd throughout the day, including us. The prices were relatively fair ranging from 100-250. Foods that were sold include;

  1. Kimbap ( a dish made from cooked rice, vegetables, meat, fish rolled in sheets of seaweed)
  2. Tteokbokki (rice cakes in a spicy sauce)
  3. Ramen
  4. Korean ice cream
  5. Chicken pops
     Tteokobokki

    Kimbap
The service was incredible and the wait time wasn't long. The food was fresh and tasty with good portions. It was also very informative and one left knowing more about the Korean culture.

It was a memorable experience and we left already anticipating the next food fair!😃
